How to Pass ACCA Exams on the First Attempt: A Practical Study Plan
Every re-attempt costs you an exam fee and three months. Passing first time is mostly about method, not talent. Here is the study approach we use with students at NPA Global.
1. Plan backwards from the exam date
Pick your exam session first, then work backwards. Most Applied Skills papers need around 150–200 hours of study; Strategic Professional papers need more. Divide that into weekly targets you can actually keep.
2. Learn, then practise — not the other way round
Spend roughly the first 60% of your time learning concepts and the remaining 40% on question practice. Many students over-read and under-practise; ACCA exams reward applying knowledge to scenarios.
3. Use the ACCA practice platform
ACCA exams are computer-based. Practise on ACCA’s official practice platform so the exam software, spreadsheet tools and timing feel familiar on the day.
4. Take full mock exams under exam conditions
- Do at least two full timed mocks before the exam.
- Review every mistake and note why you made it.
- Read examiner reports — they explain exactly where students lose marks.
5. Manage your time in the exam
Allocate time per mark and move on when time is up. A partial answer to every question scores better than a perfect answer to half the paper.
6. Don’t study alone
A mentor who reviews your mocks, answers doubts quickly and keeps you accountable makes a measurable difference. That is why NPA Global combines live classes with timed mocks, detailed feedback and doubt-solving on the LMS.
